Jerry West on LeBron James: ‘He’s most effective with the ball in his hands’

Jerry West has a different idea about what makes LeBron James and his team successful than Lakers boss Magic Johnson. And in a shock to almost nobody, it’s the formula that has helped James’ succeed in the past.

West was a guest yesterday on The Stephen A. Smith show to discuss the Clippers, as well as the struggles of the Los Angeles Lakers. When the subject of LeBron and the Lakers came up, West frankly stated that the Lakers were flawed because they didn’t let LeBron do what he’s best at: run the show and find 3-pointers for open shooters.

One creative twitter user @PickUpHoop created a supercut that pits West’s views on LeBron’s success vs. the preseason words from Magic Johnson about his vision for the team.

This video is fantastic and it also makes it even clearer–if their record didn’t already say it–that Johnson’s vision for the Lakers was ultimately a failure in Year 1.
