Jerry Springer's cause of death revealed as chat show icon dies aged 79

Jerry Springer's cause of death has been revealed following the news of his sad passing earlier today.

Springer's death was announced by his family who also revealed that the 79-year-old was diagnosed with cancer a few months before his death.

A family spokesperson said he was battling a "brief illness" but a source told TMZ Springer was battling pancreatic cancer after being diagnosed a few months ago and he "took a turn for the worse", writes The Mirror.

His devastated family confirmed in a statement that he was diagnosed with cancer several months ago.

A spokesperson for the Springer family said: "Jerry's ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word.

"He's irreplaceable and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart and humour will live on."

And as the news of his death began to circulate, fans and friends around the world paid their tributes.

Celebrity Gogglebox and YouTube star KSI said: "Rip Jerry Springer. You made my off days at school so much more entertaining."

One fan then penned: "Long Live Jerry Springer man he will be remembered for generations".

Another commented: "Oh no…RIP Jerry Springer…thank you for giving 90s kids something to watch when we stayed home "sick" from school".

While one wrote: "Man, this hurts. RIP Jerry Springer. Thank you for bringing the heat" followed by a heart emoji.
