Jerry Seinfeld – review

Jerry Seinfeld's first full-length show in the UK for 12 years was a masterclass in delivery, control and timing. Over a 90-minute set, he didn't lose his footing once; each section segued neatly into the next, every line sounding as natural as if the thought had just occurred to him. Seinfeld created one of the most successful sitcoms in TV history by zooming in on the frustrations of everyday life, but in the arena of stand-up, that observational humour can sometime run into blandness. He could have performed this set any time in the last 10 years, and frequently his material reminded me of Michael McIntyre's – safe and designed to have the broadest possible appeal. But even on the subjects of marriage, mobile phones or cinema etiquette, he crafts some brilliant lines and, at 57, the energy of his performance shows why he is still one of the most successful comedians in the world.
