Jerry Rice says Julian Edelman has the best footwork in the NFL

Julian Edelman’s NFL career has consisted of gritty plays in the middle of the field and an insane amount of playoff success.

The reigning Super Bowl MVP only has two regular seasons with over 1,000 yards, but he has the second-most receptions and receiving yards in the postseason. He’s sitting right behind the greatest wide receiver to ever play the game, Jerry Rice.

Rice joined NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football’ on Tuesday and credited Edelman for his excellence on the field.

“You’re not going to be able to cover him,” Rice said, transcribed by NBC Boston. “You can’t do it. He’s going to be able to get separation from you and make the catch.”

Who has the best footwork in the NFL?

The New England Patriots most recently played against the Baltimore Ravens, and Marlon Humphrey gave Edelman some praise after the game.

“I’ve covered some great receivers,” Humphrey said. “But you look at Edelman – he’s not the tallest, he’s not the fastest, he’s not the quickest, but I’ve seen very few receivers as good as him in the slot. He’s a Super Bowl MVP, so that speaks for itself. I really enjoyed that matchup, and I know he got some catches on me, but good players are going to make plays.”

It’ll be a tough case for Edelman to become a Hall of Famer, but the conversation has been out there since his playoff performance last season. He would have to primarily piggyback off of his postseason performances to make an argument for Canton.

He’s been New England’s leading receiver this season with 63 catches, 663 yards and four touchdowns.
