Jerry Reinsdorf says Michael Jordan had talent to reach the major leagues

White Sox and Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf said he believes Michael Jordan has the talent to reach the major leagues | John Swart/AP

White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf, who watched Michael Jordan lead his Bulls teams to six NBA championships, believes the NBA legend would have made it if he had stuck with baseball.

“Yes, I really do (think so),’’ Reinsdorf told USA TODAY Sports. ”Maybe as an extra outfielder. Look at what he accomplished.

“He last played baseball in high school at 17, and at the age of 31, he was playing in AA. We should have started him in A-ball, but the press accommodations weren’t adequate. So, 14 years later, he competed in AA, hit over .250 in the Arizona Fall League.

“If he had played another year, I really believe he would have made the big leagues.’’

Jordan played for the White’s Sox Class AA team in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1994 during his NBA hiatus.

Reinsdorf also loved ESPN’s recent 10-part documentary on Jordan, noting it was ”really great for people too young to see Jordan play know how great he was.’’
