Jerry Jones thinks about Dez Bryant in the shower

INDIANAPOLIS _ So Jerry Jones thinks about Dez Bryant.

The Cowboys owner and general manager said Thursday afternoon he thinks about the possibility of returning the wide receiver to the organization.

But where Jones thinks about Bryant, raised some eyebrows.

"I have not talked to Dez directly," Jones said from the scouting combine during a nearly 90 minute state of the team address with reporters who cover the team on a daily basis. "I've been thinking about it a lot in the shower. I have been."

Bryant, a 2010 first-round pick, hasn't played in two seasons. He turned down a contract offer from the Baltimore Ravens after the Cowboys cut him following the 2017 season. He signed with the New Orleans Saints in 2018 but suffered a torn Achilles tendon in one of his first practices with the team. Bryant didn't play last season, rehabbing from his injury, but he's posted videos of several private workouts on social media.

Bryant has worked out with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes at a Fort Worth facility and the wide receiver has caught some passes at a Frisco facility, next to The Star.

A source said the Cowboys might send Will McClay, the Cowboys vice president of player personnel, to give Bryant a look.

"I'm not dismissing it," Jones said. "I don't want to sound like it should be dismissed by saying that. I'm thinking about it."

Bryant played eight seasons for the Cowboys compiling 531 catches for 7,459 yards and 73 touchdowns. Bryant has the most receiving touchdowns in franchise history. The Cowboys released Bryant in a cost cutting move. after the 2017 season. He was bitter toward the franchise and called veteran linebacker Sean Lee a "snake" during the summer of 2018.

It seemed like a bitter breakup, yet, Jones believes his relationship is good with Bryant. Stephen Jones, the Cowboys executive vice president, said he received a text message from Bryant a few weeks ago seeking employment.

Whether the Cowboys sign Bryant or not is uncertain, given the needs on the defense and the potential signing of three offensive players in free agency in quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receivers Amari Cooper and Randall Cobb.

"He's an outstanding player and the obvious, he's had a serious injury and he's been out a little bit," Jerry Jones said. "Dez is a great player and the obvious is the obvious. Is he still a great player? We know Dez better than anybody. I know him better than, I'm going to say, anybody."

Bryant was overjoyed when seeing Jones' comments on social media about a possible reunion.

"Let's get it," Bryant said on twitter.
