Jerry Brown is delaying his Paris climate trip for a detour to San Bernardino

Dec. 03--Gov. Jerry Brown's plans for an international discussion on climate change have been pushed back, so that he can travel to San Bernardino to assess the impact of Wednesday's mass shooting that left 14 dead and 21 injured.

The governor will be on scene by late Thursday afternoon and will be briefed by local, state and federal law enforcement officials, according to details released by his office.

As a result, Brown will arrive in Paris for the United Nations conference on climate change on Saturday, a day or more behind other state officials on hand for the international summit.

The governor kept a low profile in the immediate aftermath of Wednesday's massacre. In a written statement, he called the attack "brutal," and a single photo released on Twitter showed him conferring with staff and speaking via conference call to local officials.

On Wednesday afternoon, Brown lowered Capitol flags to half-staff and canceled the annual lighting ceremony for the Capitol Christmas tree.

The governor was scheduled to appear at an event in Paris on Friday with U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. His official itinerary for the climate change summit has events listed until late next week.
