Jermaine Pennant's abandoned mansion gutted by blaze weeks after fire destroyed home

Images from the scene of a fire show Jermaine Pennant's abandoned home has again been gutted by flames.

Cheshire fire and rescue service report that they were called to a fire in a detached house on Hale Road, at 8.30pm on Tuesday, November 1. When fire crews arrived at the scene they found the home fully engulfed in flames.

Five crews from Widnes, Penketh, Speke and Lymm fought through the night to tackle the blaze. Relief crews were also dispatched from Frodsham and Chester.

Merseyside police were also in attendance and cordoned off the road while firefighters worked. A spokesperson for the fire service said: "One firefighter wearing breathing apparatus is used a hose reel to extinguish the fire.

"The crews are also using a main water jet to extinguish the flames. Police have closed the road while the incident is being dealt with."

Crews remain at the scene this morning to monitor the heat inside the building and damped down the surroundings. Relief crews are also monitoring the building with a thermal imaging camera, checking for any hot spots of fire.

The ex-Liverpool FC player's former mansion was targeted by arsonists in October.

It is understood Pennant, who played for the Reds between 2006 and 2009, bought the mansion for just over £1m in 2006. Firefighters fought the flames through the night after arriving at the property near Liverpool John Lennon Airport, reports Stoke-on-Trent Live.

It had been the subject of a drugs warrant carried out earlier this year where they discovered a cannabis farm and seized multiple plants. A 35-year-old man was arrested and released under investigation before being transferred to West Midlands Police.

Officers received further intelligence of a cannabis farm at the same property in September but no plants were found during their search. The scale of the latest cannabis farm was revealed on social media by an urban explorer who filmed himself wandering around the five-bedroom mansion.
