Jermaine Pennant admits 'he overstepped the mark' on Celebrity Big Brother as he has couple's counselling on Celebs Go Dating

Ex-footballer Jermaine Pennant admitted 'he overstepped the mark' on Celebrity Big Brother in a recent couple's counselling session.

The Nottingham-born footballer appeared on Celebs Go Dating on Monday's episode with his wife Alice Goodwin in a section of the show where couples are given relationship counselling.

The pair who tied the knot in 2014 put their marriage to the test in front of the cameras and there was a lot to uncover, MirrorOnline reports.

Jermaine's appearance on last year's Celebrity Big Brother saw him flirting with model Chloe Ayling and failing to mention he was married at the start of the reality show.

Speaking on Celebs Go Dating, Jermaine said: "I was on a show and a scenario occurred. I overstepped the mark a little bit and wasn’t thinking about the consequences. I said I wasn’t married."

There is an awkward silence when dating expert Anna Williamson, who is joined by Paul C Brunson, asks whether they are comfortable speaking about the past.

Admitting it is fine to feel uncomfortable, Anna asks: "How was that for you Alice?"

Nervous Alice replies: "I just really didn’t know how to feel or what to think, it was like an out of control situation for me."

Guilt-ridden Jermaine adds: "I’ve made many mistakes and I’ll accept the consequences that come with that."

Dating expert Paul then asks Alice whether she trusts Jermaine, who tells her to be completely honest.

After some hesitation, she confesses: "At this point…yes. Tomorrow, maybe not."

Giving her assessment of their marriage, Anna says: "I think there needs to be some forgiveness within yourself, your relationship, until that’s resolved I’m going to be brutally honest with you here, it ain’t going to work."

The couple are then asked whether they would like to have kids together - with both having a child from a previous relationship.

Jermaine confidently reveals that he wants to have a child with Alice, but she wants to make sure "the time is right".

Alice said: "This is probably another example of where we differ, Jermaine is happy to have a child despite the fact we haven’t ironed out our issues.

"After everything we’ve been through I just really need to know we’ve dealt with all our problems before we take the next step."

The footballer than admits that he needs to spend more time with his wife and less time on the golf course.

Jermaine explains: "I need to make more effort, I’m just throwing it out there.

"In the sense of showing her a bit more appreciation, cook for her from time to time, take her on dinners instead of playing golf all week."

Celebs Go Dating airs at 9pm every week night on E4.
