Jermaine Jenas stretches his lead over Sam Quek in footie5 tipping table thanks to a little help from VAR

It's tight at the top of the footie5 tipping table - but Jermaine Jenas has stretched his lead over Sam Quek ever so slightly - with a little help from VAR!

Brighton versus West Ham was the decisive fixture in this weekend's picks.

Both pundits went for the scoredraw, which earns a big six points - but while Sam went for 2-2 Jermaine opted for 1-1 - and Leandro Trossard's first half 'goal', ruled out by the video assistant referee, ensured that JJ's tip was spot on.

The Belgian playmaker, signed from Genk in June, thought he had opened the scoring with a fine strike, only for his effort to be ruled out for offside on a VAR review.

But Trossard wouldn't be denied. He fired past Lukasz Fabianski from the edge of the box shortly after Javier Hernandez had put the Hammers into a 61st-minute lead.

Sam got Wigan v Leeds absolutely right, and also correctly called her beloved Liverpool to win at Southampton and Norwich to beat Newcastle. A late Aston Villa leveller would have seen her snatch a big six points too, calling a 2-2 draw from Villa's home curtain raiser against Bournemouth.

But Villa couldn't quite complete a stirring comeback.

Close .... but no cigar!

Jermaine now leads overall 20-16.

Correctly calling just one draw from this weekend's round of fixtures, however, will wipe out that lead instantly.

It's all to play for!
