Jermaine Jenas spells out where Newcastle's transfer priorities must lie after Liverpool defeat

Jermaine Jenas believes Newcastle United need 'a good few experienced centre-halves' to sure up their back line and try and ensure Premier League survival.

The Magpies have conceded the most goals in the entire division, not helped by last weekend's drubbing at Leicester.

Newcastle's defensive frailties have been at the fore of almost every game this season, whether that be individual mistakes or the way the team has set up.

Speaking on BT Sport, former Newcastle midfielder Jenas doesn't believe the Magpies look like keeping a clean sheet and has questioned whether it's an "individual" thing.

Jenas said: "It’s been clear as day for a long period of time. Their record away from home is disastrous, they’re conceding goals they don’t look like they can keep a clean sheet and that’s obviously very worrying.

"You toy with the fact is it an individual thing?

"If they bring in one player who is that player that’s going to sure things up within the back four.

"This group of players’ confidence is pretty shot defensively; they know they’re not going to keep clean sheets.

"They need a good few experienced centre-halves in particular that can do a job and guide them in the position they are in now."
