Jermaine Jenas reveals Alan Shearer's brilliant reaction to Miguel Almiron's first Newcastle goal

Alan Shearer was 'up celebrating' in the Match of the Day studio when Miguel Almiron finally broke his Newcastle United duck yesterday.

After over 11 months at Newcastle and 26 appearances, the Paraguayan playmaker finally scored his first goal for the Magpies, as he smashed home the winning goal against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The goal sparked euphoric celebrations inside the stadium from Almiron, his team-mates and fans and the relief on the former Atlanta United star was plain to see.

It also secured a vital win that lifted Newcastle into the top half of the Premier League table and, crucially, 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

And the moment was clearly not lost on Newcastle's record goalscorer as his former United team-mate Jermaine Jenas, who was working alongside Shearer for Match of the Day, revealed how he celebrated the goal at the BBC's TV studios.

“He was up celebrating when Almiron scored," Jenas told BBC Radio 5Live.

"There he is [Shearer cheers in the background whilst Jenas is conducting his interview] as you can hear in the background. He was delighted.

“It was actually nice to see. I have played in teams with certain players that they attach themselves and the affinity for them grows within the fans, within the changing room. He works his socks off.

“Out of the chances, out of all the chances he has had all season, brilliant strike from inside the box. There was that whole feeling of like jubilation and I know St James' Park would have gone wild.”
