Jermaine Jenas remembers one nightmare Spurs pre-season trip under Juande Ramos

Jermaine Jenas has recounted a tough pre-season trip he undertook during the reign of former Tottenham Hotspur boss Juande Ramos.

The Spaniard took over at Tottenham in 2007 and arrived at the club with a fixation on improving the fitness players of the players at his disposal.

Ramos would ultimately last less than a year in the hot seat despite winning the League Cup as Premier League results nose-dived in his second season.

Jenas has previously admitted that he played some of his best football under Ramos as he was fitter than ever, but even he admitted that the Spaniard's pre-season trip in 2008 was the toughest he had experienced.

"No footballers enjoy running as such. We had a pre-season once at Spurs with Juande Ramos where he took us to Valencia and every morning we did a 9km run at 6am around a golf course," Jenas said on MOTDx.

"Then we did a gym workout or we did running on the beach, in and out of the season. Then at 7pm at night we would finally get the balls out and start playing football for a couple of hours. We did that every day for two weeks."

He added: "Opting out was basically not playing in the team again.

"You get used to it though, your body gets used to it. I was ripped!"
