Jermaine Jenas believes Tottenham’s disallowed goal against Sheffield United as the worst decision VAR has given this season.
Jose Mourinho thought they had grabbed an immediate equaliser to Sander Berge's opening goal for the Blades, only to see the goal chalked off following a VAR review.
Lucas Moura appeared to be fouled and as the ball broke away from him, Jack Robinson fired the ball against the Brazilian's arm and into Harry Kane's path, who turned the ball past Dean Henderson.
But under IFAB regulations, the letter of the law states any involvement of the arm, accidental or otherwise, that leads to a goal must be penalised.
However, that didn't stop Jeans from blasting the decision on Thursday night’s Match of the Day.
“I think it’s the worst decision I’ve seen VAR give this year. I’ve sat here many times and had a go at VAR and some of the decisions,” he said.
“With this, what annoys me the most is the lack of common sense. No referee can sit across from me and say that’s a good decision for the game of football at all.
“The players and the managers this year have been unbelievable in mentally getting over these kinds of hurdles that VAR is throwing at them.
“It’s supposed to help the game and it’s making it far worse so they need to sort that out.
While Alan Shearer added on the decision: "It’s shocking. Michael Oliver, the VAR referee, is probably sat at Stockley Park with his hands over his face thinking ‘no, I cannot give that’.
"He must be embarrassed that he’s got to go back to Chris Kavanagh and say he’s got to disallow that goal. It was a shocker.
"The law is awful."
