Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas believes that the north London club would "fall apart" if Harry Kane was sold this summer.
The England captain, who has netted 32 goals in all competitions for Spurs this season, wants to hold "honest talks" with chairman Daniel Levy this summer over his future.
Speculation surrounding the striker's future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this week has been rife after it was claimed by Sky Sports News on Monday evening that the striker had made it crystal clear that he wants to seal an exit this summer in a bid to fulfil his ambitions of winning trophies.
However, football.london understands that Kane, whilst considering his future in north London, has not directly informed Spurs that he wants to leave this summer as of yet.
But with all the pointers suggesting that Spurs will be left with little choice but to sell their talisman within the coming months, Jenas fears for his former club without him, insisting his departure could have a damaging impact.
"The part of me that loves the club doesn't want Harry to leave," Jenas told BBC Radio 5 Live's Friday Football Social. "But he deserves his opportunity at the top and I hope he gets what he wants.
"Levy has got to prove to Kane that what is coming in with regards to the manager, style of play and players over the next two seasons is going to be a team built to win something.
"And when I say win something, I don't think a League Cup cuts it with Harry Kane. We are not talking that any more, we are talking a team that can challenge for the title and a team that can be in the Champions League competing in the latter stages on a regular basis.
"If he sells Harry Kane - the stock of the football club, the look of the football club, they've lost the England captain, they've got no manager, they've got disgruntled players - what happens then to Son Heung-Min and a core group of players that have been successful at the football club? The whole thing falls apart and who holds that together?
"So Levy has got a lot of problems on his plate because on top of that he is trying to attract a manager, and to attract a top manager you want one of the best strikers in the world."
At this moment in time, as expected, speculation regarding Kane's future and who he may join if he was to leave Spurs is rife. However, speaking in an exclusive, in-depth interview with former England defender Gary Neville, Kane has dropped a hint that Manchester City could be his ideal preference after waxing lyrical about Belgian ace Kevin De Bruyne.
"Oh De Bruyne for sure," he said when asked who is the player in the Premier League that he looks up to and thinks he could supply a great level of service. "When I watch De Bruyne play he’s a special, special player and some of the balls I see him put in for City are just a striker's dream if I’m honest but yeah he’s an outstanding player.
"You’ve seen him, he’s an outstanding player with the ball, off the ball, pressing, but his delivery is as good as I've ever seen to be honest."
City are currently the favourites with the bookmakers to land the England star this summer.
