Jermaine Jenas pinpoints Chelsea's 'huge success story' under Frank Lampard this season

It has been quite the season for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham so far in 2019/20.

The 22-year-old notched his 13th goal of the campaign in all competitions as he scored in Chelsea's 2-1 victory against Lille in the Champions League last night (Tuesday), helping the Blues seal a place in the knockout stages.

But while former Tottenham midfielder for qualifying from the group, he has also heaped praise on Abraham and how he has performed for the Blues so far this season.

Abraham now has 11 goals in the Premier League, with two more strikes in the Champions League and a first senior England goal making it 14 for club and country so far this season.

And Jenas insists that there is more to come from the Camberwell-born striker.

“It is a huge success story," Jenas said, speaking on BT Sport's Champions League highlights programme.

"Last year at Aston Villa was a big moment for him. Yes he was in the Championship, but he scored such a huge number of goals [26 in all competitions] and he was like, ‘I am ready’.

“And what he has done now is he has kicked on from that because he is playing with better players, and he is getting more chances, and the goals are coming."

His strike against Lille - his second against the Ligue 1 opponents in two matches against them - came from close range to open the scoring for the Blues in their crucial last group stage clash.

But Jenas said that such goals were just as important for a striker as any other strike.

“That is the type of goal I like to see him score, because he is in the right place at the right time," Jenas added.

"It is a tap-in, but this helps to tot up his numbers, which is great to see."
