Jermaine Jenas is “worried” about the current state of Tottenham Hotspur and he thinks his former side are far away from challenging for the top four places again.
Despite reaching the Champions League final in the 2018/19 campaign, Spurs were unable to qualify for next season’s competition last time around.
Mauricio Pochettino was relieved of his duties in November, with Jose Mourinho swiftly named as his successor.
It was a strong start following Mourinho’s appointment, but things quickly turned and Spurs ended up finishing seven points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea.
Jenas, when speaking to talkSPORT, “can’t see” his Mourinho’s side challenging for a top-four place next season, unless they can make two or three top signings.
Asked by former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour how he thinks Spurs will cope next season, Jenas replied: “Why are you asking me this question, mate?! Just because you’re happy with your signings…
“I am worried, if I’m totally honest with you. I don’t see Tottenham getting in the top-four, as it stands right now.
“I’ve not seen anything in regards to a level of performance that tells me they’re going to break in.
“The end of the season was positive but it was getting results in not the most beautiful way. That’s Jose’s way and I think a lot of Tottenham fans will still take that, because the results are the most important thing.
“But the way I see it right now, they need to bring in at least two or three players and, if they don’t do that, I don’t see how they possibly can get into the top-four.”
So far this summer, Spurs have signed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton for £15m, as well as Joe Hart on a free transfer.
