Match of the Day pundit Jermaine Jenas has delivered his verdict on Gabriel Martinelli's latest performance.
Martinelli was snubbed by Mikel Arteta for the Europa League semi-final first leg with Villarreal on Thursday, a 2-1 defeat at Estadio de la Ceramica, forced to settle for an appearance off the bench.
But on Sunday, he made his point to Arteta with a fine performance for Arsenal in their 2-0 away win over Newcastle United in the Premier League.
Martinelli delivered a stunning assist for Arsenal's second goal, picking out Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with an inch-perfect cross, helping the Gabon international and indeed the Gunners to gain confidence.
The Gunners had gone three games without a win, losing each of their last two, and confidence was much-needed ahead of Thursday night when they will need to win to progress to the final.
Martinelli was key on Sunday, and with hopes of starting on Thursday, Match of the Day pundit Jenas has praised his performance.
“What was brilliant, held his width. He was relentless in running at [Jacob] Murphy," Jenas said.
"When he gets on the ball, you get the sense is going to make things happen. He was always the main threat, always an outlet. He was their best player today."
Martinelli has made 18 senior appearances for Arsenal this season, but many fans believe the 19-year-old deserves many more having often impressed when given the chance.
The Brazilian was brought off the bench in the 63rd minute during the first leg against Villarreal, but it will be interesting to see whether Arteta now gives the youngster a start, though Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe and Bukayo Saka are now all available for the home leg.
