Jermaine Jenas highlights his big worry about Tottenham as he questions Jose Mourinho decision

Jermaine Jenas has questioned why Jose Mourinho decided not to play Toby Alderweireld in the Premier League clash with Wolves.

The Spurs boss opted to play Eric Dier in a three-man defence against Wolverhampton Wanderers, alongside Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga, with Alderweireld and his compatriot Jan Vertonghen on the bench.

After the game, Mourinho moved to explain his decision as he highlighted the need for more pace in his defence, adding that he felt, as a midfield player, Dier would be more comfortable with reading the game and passing.

Mourinho was also full of praise for Dier's performance in the game, with the Portuguese head coach suggesting that he was surprised at the question.

But Jenas said he was still not sure why Alderweireld could not play the role that Dier fulfilled in the defence, adding that he was worried about one key aspect about Tottenham at the moment.

“I’m not sure if Jose Mourinho has watched Toby Alderweireld over the last three years, but as a centre half with the ball at his feet, there aren’t many more comfortable or with a better passing range than Toby Alderweireld," he said, speaking on BBC programme Match of the Day 2.

“I get his method, pace out wide and if he wanted someone who could come out with the ball, but you have got one of the best centre halves at doing that.

“I am happy to reserve judgement on Jose until the start of next season, because I want to see certain players leave and other players come in.

“But at the minute I am worried at what I am seeing in terms of the performances.”
