Jermaine Jenas' dismissive assessment of Man Utd's FA Cup hopes ahead of Leicester clash

Jermaine Jenas believes Manchester United are 'too inconsistent' to win the FA Cup as they prepare for their quarter-final clash against Leicester City.

United travel to the King Power Stadium on Sunday they target a first trophy under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

They face Brendan Rodgers' side having also made the quarter-finals of the Europa League, with their win over AC Milan on Thursday earning a last-eight clash against Granada.

While the Red Devils' silverware ambitions are on track, Jenas believes they will be denied in the world's oldest cup competition.

The former Tottenham and England midfielder also reckons Brendan Rodgers' Leicester will also come up short - and predicts that Chelsea will rival Manchester City to lift the famous trophy.

“Leicester struggled towards the end of last season and I see that happening a bit again this season," said Jenas in an interview with Heycar, the sponsor of BT Sport’s FA Cup coverage.

“Whereas Manchester United are just too inconsistent, week to week.”

The weekend's FA Cup fixtures start with Bournemouth hosting Southampton on Saturday lunchtime, with bookies' favourites City travelling to face Everton in the evening.

United's trip to Leicester rounds off the quarter-finals on Sunday, with Chelsea entertaining the Premier League's bottom side Sheffield United earlier that day.

And Jenas reckons the West Londoners have got what it takes to win the cup, having remained unbeaten since Thomas Tuchel took charge in January.

“Chelsea might win it," said the 38-year-old, who also played for Nottingham Forest, Newcastle and QPR.

“They have found some form under Thomas Tuchel and I like what is going down there.

“With the form they’re in, they could be a side bet to Manchester City as winners this season.”

Like United, Chelsea and City will juggle their FA Cup commitments with European football if they win their respective ties this weekend.

Tuchel's side will face Porto in next month's Champions League quarter-finals, while Premier City face a last-eight tie against Borussia Dortmund following Friday's draw.
