Jermaine Jenas delivers verdict on Patrick Bamford's disallowed goal as rival fans agree on VAR

Match of the Day pundit Jermaine Jenas has weighted into the debate over Patrick Bamford's disallowed goal on Saturday.

The striker had an effort ruled out for offside at Sellhurst Park during the Whites' 4-1 Premier League defeat at Crystal Palace.

However, replays of the incident suggest there was barely anything in the decision and if anything, it was the player's arm which was fractionally offside.

Jenas spoke about it on BBC's Match of the Day on Saturday night and called the decision 'a joke' as Marcelo Bielsa's side were left to rue a third defeat in four matches.

"It’s a joke," said Jenas. "Patrick’s interview was spot on.

"Look at it here, you can see that it is not offside, as soon as the dots go up, you don’t need that.

"I just feel like the more they complicate it the worse it gets.

"You can’t score with your arm, are the dots even in the right place?”

Incidentally, a poll run by MOTD, asking fans if they wanted to get rid of VAR, saw 70 per cent vote in favour of scrapping it.

The poll attracted more than 250,000 votes online.

Bamford did get on the scoresheet in the game but it proved mere consolation as the Eagles ran out convincing winners.

Scott Dann, Ebe Eze, an own goal by Helder Costa and a Jordan Ayew effort helped lift Roy Hodgson's side up to seventh place in the league standings.

Leeds sit 15th with 10 points from their first eight matches.
