Jermaine Jenas believes the right decision was made as Olympiacos drew level from the penalty spot against Tottenham this evening (Wednesday).
Tottenham were pegged back in Greece after taking a two-goal lead thanks to first half goals from Harry Kane and Lucas Moura, with Spurs' first goal coming from the penalty spot after Kane was challenged in the box.
But Daniel Podence reduced the deficit just before the break with a crisp finish at the Karaiskakis Stadium, and Olympiacos drew level early in the second half, after Mathieu Valbuena converted from the spot, having been challenged by Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen.
The referee Gianluca Rocchi pointed to the spot straight away and although the decision was checked by the Video Assistant Referee system, the penalty stood, with Valbuena picking himself up to find the net and level the score.
However, the former Tottenham midfielder felt that the referee made the right call.
“It was slightly clumsy the way that he [Vertonghen] stood on him," he said, speaking as a commentator on BT Sport.
"He has trod on his toes and it has got to be clear for it to be overturned, and I do think it is a penalty.
“You have to say that he made the right decision.”
