Liverpool got their Premier League title challenge back on track with victory over Tottenham last night.
The reigning champions ended a run of five league games without a win as they beat Jose Mourinho's men 3-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Fourth-placed Liverpool are now three points behind Manchester United heading into the second half of the campaign, and four adrift of leaders Manchester City.
Spurs are in sixth spot, four points behind Liverpool and seven behind United, albeit with a game in hand.
Ahead of last night's game, pundit Jermaine Jenas was feeling confident about his former club Tottenham's prospects this season.
“I think Spurs will finish above them both (United and Liverpool), to be honest with you," he told BT Sport.
But it turned out to be a disappointing evening for Tottenham as goals from Roberto Firmino, Trent Alexander Arnold and Sadio Mane fired Liverpool to victory.
“When you go into a game of this magnitude, with aspirations of wanting to be part of the title conversation against a Liverpool team that’s apparently struggling... but they just didn’t turn up," admitted Jenas.
"Three shockers, three absolute shockers in a game like that. You can’t afford that, you can’t really afford one and they had three big mistakes that have cost them today in the game.”
Jenas added: “What’s disappointed Spurs fans a lot in recent weeks is that they’ve got their goal and then not had the ability to sustain those counter attacks.
"You need to be able to keep doing it because they’re like little jabs to the opposition to remind them that they can keep coming.
"In their last game against Sheffield United, what impressed me the most was that they had a sustained period of possession up the pitch, but they played much better.”
Spurs were not helped by an injury to Harry Kane as Liverpool's makeshift defence held largely firm.
“Yeah, and they didn’t look like that (patched-up defence), that’s one of the biggest compliments you can give this Liverpool side," said Jenas.
"The forward three will get the plaudits because at times they looked back to their best, but even when Nat Phillips came on, you kind of looked and thought that he looked solid back there, they almost got stronger.
“The defensive unit that Spurs had out there, individually, are they good enough?
"They’re not good enough to win a title, I would say, but they’re a lot better than what they’ve shown today, the mistakes they gave up in the game today.
"That will be Jose’s biggest disappointment along with the fact that the changes he made at half-time had zero impact on the game. If anything, they got worse.
"You’d argue that Kane went off and so on and so forth, but you’d expect a better reaction for the players that came on. (Erik) Lamela was non-existent when he came on. Food for thought.”
