Jermaine Jenas blasts Newcastle United and claims 'aspirations' must start changing

Jermaine Jenas believes “aspirations” need to start changing at Newcastle United after their 5-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City on Wednesday night.

Newcastle went into the game at the Etihad fourth in the form table having gone the last five unbeaten - winning three of those games.

But Steve Bruce’s side were simply second best to City, who themselves returned to winning ways after Sunday’s defeat to Southampton.

And Jenas, speaking afterwards on BT Sport, took aim at the club and believes it is time things started changing.

“I think that has been the frustration of all the fans for so many years,” he said.

“The Newcastle United team I joined was finishing third in the Premier League, fourth in the Premier League, playing Champions League football.

“That is what Newcastle fans were used to seeing for a number of years, prior to myself even joining the football club.

“Now it is a team that has been relegated on numerous occasions and bounced back. Yes, they have had a good season this season, but the aspirations just have to be higher for that football club.

“Even today watching that. Well you can get beat by City, but it is the way you get beat sometimes it is not pretty.

“It is one of those that Steve Bruce will look back on and it won’t make him happy at all.”
