Jermaine Defoe explains what has impressed him most about Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Former Premier League star Jermain Defoe has opened up on what has impressed him most about Dominic Calvert-Lewin's season at Everton.

The youngster has enjoyed a brilliant campaign so far after firmly establishing himself in the starting line-up, bagging 15 goals across 32 appearances in all competitions.

His deadly nature in front of goal has particularly been apparent since the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti at Goodison Park, with eight of those strikes coming under the tutelage of the Italian.

Calvert-Lewin's displays have caught the eyes of many pundits, with the Everton star being tipped for a potential first England senior call-up in the fixtures scheduled for the end of March before their cancellation.

And Defoe belives there is one aspect of his game which has been particularly impressive so far this term.

The former Spurs and West Ham striker told Sky Sports : "Calvert-Lewin of course [has impressed me].

"I think the hardest thing at that level as a forward is to be consistent, scoring goals consistently week in week out is probably the hardest thing.

"There's a lot of times where you're flying and you're scoring goals, maybe you've scored one or two goals in a game - the hardest thing is to focus again, go into the next game and do it again. And if there's a game in midweek, do it again.

"Calvert-Lewin, the goals that he's scored consistently since Ancelotti has come in has really impressed me."
