A teenager has been charged with murder over the fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old boy in south London.

Jermaine Cools, 14, was wounded in London Road, Croydon, near West Croydon railway station following a fight involving a number of people on November 18.

He attended hospital but died a short time later.

The Metropolitan Police said a 16-year-old boy, who was arrested on Monday, had been charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon and would appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

The investigation is being led by homicide detectives from the Met’s specialist crime unit.

His devastated mother Lorraine Dudek, 35, had told The Standard previously: “The only thing I want for Christmas can never happen - that is to have Jermaine back.”

Jermaine became the 27th teenager killed in the capital in 2021 following his death on November 18.

Scotland Yard has already warned the number of fatalities for the year could top 30 young people for the first time, overtaking the record of 29 in 2008.

Jermaine’s family have also launched a fundraiser to pay for his funeral and say “goodbye to our beautiful, loving, happy son”. To donate, click here.
