Jermain Defoe thrills Rangers fans as he wears famous jersey in photo with Jimmy Bell

He's only been at Rangers for nine months but Jermain Defoe is fast becoming a fans' favourite.

The former Tottenham star is enjoying a successful swansong to his career as he bangs in goals for Steven Gerrard's side.

And he has shown he knows his Ibrox history as well as he delighted fans with a picture in one of the club's most famous shirts.

Defoe posted an image on Instagram alongside Rangers kitman Jimmy Bell and he's wearing the kit from the nine in a row season with the caption 'My Mate'.

Players such as Paul Gascoigne, Brian Laudrup, Ally McCoist and Richard Gough all wore it during their playing days, which came two years before Defoe had even made a senior appearance.

He started at West Ham in 1999 while Walter Smith's men clinched nine in a row in 1997.

Kitman Bell was about in those days as well and it's a photo Rangers fans will adore.

Defoe joined Rangers on loan from Bournemouth in January and the 36-year-old has scored 14 goals in 30 games so far, including six in 10 this season.
