Jermain Defoe shares Rangers regret as he reveals pride at representing 'our club'

Rangers veteran Jermain Defoe admits he wishes he joined the club years ago.

The striker is a fan favourite at Ibrox after moving to Glasgow 18 months ago but an injury has kept him out of action for the first two competitive games of the season.

That meant he was on duty to head to Ibrox on Thursday morning to help officially open the club's new store after a huge refit of the place.

The Rangers Store had been left struggling as the deal with Mike Ashley's Sports Direct came to an end but Castore spent an incredible £250k getting it into top shape.

And Defoe - along with new signing Leon Balogun - appeared at the opening, which was officially done by chairman Douglas Park.

He then took to Instagram to post: "Great to represent the first team at the opening of the new Rangers store at Ibrox.

"An historic day for our club. Well done to the boys at Castore too. The support of our fans has been incredible."

Fans loved his comments with one replying to him to say: "The key phrase in this post is 'our club'. @IamJermainDefoe, you are a Ranger forever now."

That led the 37-year-old to share his regret as he replied: "Wish I joined years ago."

Defoe has netted 25 goals in 52 appearances for Rangers over his 18 months at the club, a record made more impressive by his regular appearances off the bench.
