Jermain Defoe sends video message to fans after being involved in three-car accident

Jermain Defoe has reassured Rangers fans that he is okay - after the striker was involved in a multi-car smash after the Gers' victory over Aberdeen.

Former England hit man Defoe was pictured speaking to police near Clyde Tunnel in Glasgow at around 6pm on Saturday evening.

Two vehicles, including a Range Rover, were left badly damaged after the smash.

But Defoe, who had been confirmed as having been involved in a car crash by Rangers earlier, took to social media to record a quick message to prove he was unhurt in the accident.

In a video posted on the star's Instagram , Defoe said: "Thank you for all your lovely messages. I'm fine, I'm all good.

"I'm just going to go home and rest up. I'm just a little bit in shock but I'm all good."

Defoe had earlier scored during Rangers' 5-0 thrashing of Aberdeen, having come on as a second half substitute.

It was the former Tottenham goal machine's 16th goal for the Scottish giants since arriving from Bournemouth in January on loan.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police were called to reports of a three-car road traffic collision along Balshagray Avenue at 6.05pm.

“Officers remain on the scene. There are no injuries.”

An eyewitness told the Scottish Sun: "Defoe and a lady - who looked like she was his girlfriend - were in the Range Rover.

"The BMW M4 sports car was travelling south. It appeared somehow to go through the central reservation and clipped Defoe's car.

"It was absolutely shocking to see. A really awful smash. I thought, 'oh no - someone is bound to be badly hurt here'.

Defoe has already scored nine goals this term to help Rangers win six of their last seven games in the Scottish top flight this term, only losing the Old Firm clash to Celtic.

The Hoops sit top of the table on 19 points, with Steven Gerrard's side a point further back in second.
