Jermain Defoe pleads Tyrese Campbell Rangers and Celtic ignorance as striker delivers cryptic response

Jermain Defoe insists Rangers and Celtic's interest in Tyrese Campbell is news to him.

The Ibrox star sparked laughs live on Sky Sports on Tuesday night as he was quizzed over the Stoke City star.

Record Sport exclusively revealed last week the Glasgow rivals were set to go head to head for the forward's signature.

And host Jim White took the chance to probe the veteran striker for his verdict on the developing transfer chase.

Defoe, ever the professional, paused for a moment before simply firing back: "Oh really?!"

And White responded: "You know! Don't give us that."

But Defoe refused to be caught off guard as he replied: "I don't know, we'll see what happens."

The 37-year-old recently returned from Dubai with the rest of Steven Gerrard's side following their winter training camp.

And Defoe admits he was left stunned by the number of supporters who turned out for a brunch event.

He added: "The manager said to me when I was signing that this place reminded him of Liverpool.

"It's just been unbelievable. I'm so taken aback by the support that we get.

"Literally, we were in Dubai for a training camp for a week.

"I had to go to a brunch and there was 300 Rangers fans in the room. It was carnage.

"I walked in and I couldn't believe it. Everywhere we go we've got that sort of support, it's amazing."
