Jermain Defoe makes Rangers sacrifice admission as he delivers emotional thanks to 'wonderful' club

Rangers star Jermain Defoe delivered an emotional thank you to the club after being presented with an award to mark his 300 career goals.

The striker was given the award at the club's Player of the Year event on Monday night and he admits he would have sacrificed half of them for 55.

Luckily for him and Rangers, he didn't need to do that as the Ibrox side wrapped up the title in incredible style with an invincible league campaign.

They won 32 out of their 38 games with the other six ending in draws and Defoe grabbed seven goals throughout a campaign he spent largely on the bench.

But he still played a huge role with Steven Gerrard singling him out as someone who helped them get over the line with his experience at the top level.

The former England and Tottenham striker scored his 300th goal for the club with a delightful left foot finish against Livingston earlier in the season and then went on to score another five - including against Celtic and Aberdeen.

And after being given his award, he posted on Instagram to say: “I was privileged to receive this special award from our wonderful club for scoring 300 career goals.

“I said last night, I’d have sacrificed half those goals to win 55. WATP.”

Defoe is yet to sign an extension to his deal and could move on in the summer, although talks are ongoing about extending his stay at Ibrox.
