Jermain Defoe clamps 'laughable' Jamie O'Hara as Rangers hero shuts down Bournemouth comparison

Rangers hero Jermain Defoe admits he couldn't believe Jamie O'Hara's shock Rangers pop.

The outspoken former Tottenham star claimed earlier this week that Steven Gerrard would be landing a bigger job if he swapped Ibrox for Championship side Bournemouth.

But Rangers star Defoe- who will miss tonight's Europa League return with Bayer Leverkusen through injury - believes his experience of playing for the Cherries puts him in the perfect place to give his verdict.

The 37-year-old said: "To be totally honest, when I saw it I laughed. I just couldn't believe it.

"I played for Bournemouth but to be honest there is no comparison. What he said was laughable."

Defoe also addressed close pal Alfredo Morelos' Rangers future and believes the player is coping well despite fervent speculation surrounding his future.

He added; "Eternally you become friends, you each other every day, it's part and parcel of football, players come and go, and it's never been easy in my career.

"Sometime I've not even been able to say bye to a player, it's the part of it now.

"He's dealt with it quite well, you wouldn't look at him and think he's got that in the back of his mind or he's not training well or he's not got his head down, or is confused or anxious, he's just been normal to be honest.

"Stuff like that you leave up to the club, if he does go, you wish him the best and if he stay then he's a top player, as he has shown."
