Jermain Defoe and Rangers B boss David McCallum to lead first team during Ibrox club's manager search

Rangers have revealed David McCallum, Brian Gilmour, Jermain Defoe and Colin Stewart will lead the first team as they continue their search for a manager.

The Ibrox club are currently conducting a recruitment process following Steven Gerrard's departure to Aston Villa last week.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is the favourite for the post after Frank Lampard was reportedly ruled out of consideration for the role.

An update from Rangers said of the interim management: "David McCallum, Brian Gilmour, Jermain Defoe and Colin Stewart will lead our Men’s First Team whilst the recruitment process for a new Manager continues."

Rangers have been without a manager since Thursday after Gerrard was confirmed as the new head coach of Aston Villa.

He gave his first interview at the English Premier League club this morning.

Gerrard reflected on his time in Glasgow and said he can walk away with his 'head held high' after winning the Light Blues their first title in a decade.

He said on Villa TV: "I have to respect that the leagues are very different in terms of the level but I've learned an awful lot in the past three and a half years.

"I've lived under that pressure and demand to win every single week... There was a big building job to be done there and I can walk away with my head held high for sure."
