Jerk chicken and lobster tails street food kitchen set to open at Nottingham bar

After wowing visitors at Nottingham Street Food Club, a soul food trader is set to take over the kitchen at a city centre bar.

Jerk chicken and waffle, lobster tails, shrimp mac 'n' cheese, Hennessy wings and plantain pancakes are the kind of tasty tucker food lovers can look forward to when Steak and Shrimp Kitchen sets up shop at the Parliament Bar and Kitchen, in Upper Parliament Street, from next month.

Founder Tobias Lewis said: "It's South American/Jamaican soul food. It's speaking for itself. It's very tasty,"

"When they hear about takeaway with lobster tails, a lot of people call me up. It's worth the price - lobster is £30 to £40 in a restaurant but I do a lobster platter with tails, jerk chicken, rice and mango coleslaw for £15."

Steak and Shrimp Kitchen began after friends and family complimented his cooking and convinced him to turn it into a business.

Once he'd passed all the necessary health and safety requirements, he launched a delivery service from his home in Cinderhill, and just the other month took over a pitch for the weekend at Nottingham Street Club on the top floor of intu Victoria Centre.

"When I left my mum's house at 17 I couldn't cook but then my wife taught me how to do tuna and rice and I started getting creative from there and experimenting with ingredients.

"It took a few years but it's something I'm very passionate about," said the 31-year-old, a key support worker at Safe Haven Accommodation for young people.

From May 3, Steak and Shrimp will be serving at Parliament Bar, Thursday to Sunday, from 3pm to 10pm. As well as eat-in, and takeaway, there will be a delivery service.

But if you can't wait until then, Tobias will be back at Nottingham Street Food Club, this Friday to Sunday (April 5-7) serving jerk chicken with cocoa bread and peppers and chicken and waffles.
