Jeremy Vine On 5 hit with 383 Ofcom complaints over Mike Parry 'minorities' remark

Jeremy Vine's Channel 5 show has been hit with 383 Ofcom complaints in regards to Mike Parry's 'minorities' remark.

Last week, Jeremy Vine On 5 hosted a rather controversial debate about the Insulate Britain protestors on the M25.

During the debate last Friday, radio presenter Mike shocked viewers when he slammed minorities, declaring that the UK was "too tolerant" towards them.

Mike appeared as a panelist on the popular daytime show alongside journalist Yasmin Alibhai-Brown, but the segment took a tense turn when he started ranting about minorities.

"The problem in this country in all areas is that minorities always get the upper hand because we're so tolerant," he said.

Slamming his hand on the desk, Mike raged: "And minorities have to be squashed like that!"

Shocked, Yasmin said: "Oh my god."

Earlier on in the chat, as they discussed the protesters, Jeremy said: "If they're going to get superglue and glue themselves to the road, you've got to think about ripping them off."

As others in the studio 'oohed', Mike exclaimed: "You do! Of course you do!"

Jeremy continued: "You do, haven't you? You've got to say, if this is the situation where you say, 'I'm sorry, but we're going to have to tear you off'."

Yasmin didn't agree, and said: "Listen, I'm old enough to remember the Greenham Common Women and we did fantastic stuff that everybody got incredibly cross about."

"Yes, but they didn't inconvenience millions of other people," Mike retorted.

Jeremy told Mike: 'We don't want to do too much squashing of minorities on a Friday' (Channel 5)

Yasmin continued: "I think, if we are a free society - and I'm very glad to be living in a free society - then we have to put up with some of this. When the farmers took to the roads, none of the traditional right wing papers objected in the way they're objecting now."

Referring to Mike's earlier comments about China, she added: "I think you should go and live in China, they could do with you over there."

He laughed as he continued: "So that the rest of society can operate normally."

Jeremy responded as he looked down at his notes: "We don't want to do too much squashing of minorities on a Friday."

"Thank you," Yasmin replied.

Viewers were left utterly speechless by the remarks and flocked to Twitter to comment.

One tweeted: "WTF! 'Minorities have to be squashed, like that!' #JeremyVine."

While another wrote: "This is unbelievable- Mike Parry: 'The problem in this country, in all areas, is that the minorities always get the upper hand cos we’re so tolerant & minorities have to be squashed, like that!'"
