Jeremy Renner's condition is 'much worse than anyone knows' after snow plough accident

Jeremy Renner is thought to be in a "much worse" condition than previously reported after a horror snow plough accident left him fighting for his life.

The Marvel star was crushed by his 14,330lb snow plough on New Year's Day, suffering blunt chest trauma and orthopaedic injuries.

He was airlifted to hospital following the accident and was said to be in a critical but stable condition after surgery.

Those close to Jeremy now say the damage to his chest was "substantial", adding that he has a long road to recovery ahead of him.

One of his friends said: "It's much worse than anyone knows. Jeremy is very aware of the fact that he almost died out there."

"Word is the damage to Jeremy’s chest was so substantial it had to be reconstructed in surgery," another insider told RadarOnline.

They also revealed the 52-year-old could be facing a two-year recovery journey before he is back in fighting shape.

One friend said the actor is doing ok and added that Jeremy is "a fighter" who is "determined to get through this".

The source noted that Jeremy's family have been by his side while he recovers in hospital and have been trying to keep him entertained since the accident.

Jeremy took to his Instagram Story on Monday and admitted he is "missing my happy place" as he urged his fans to "be safe out there" in the tough weather conditions.

He shared picturesque snaps of snowy trees and a number of chalets hidden by an abundance of snow.

The actor said: "Missing my happy place... It's a rough ride over the pass. Be safe out there Reno/Tahoe."

Jeremy is reported to have lost a serious amount of blood in the accident, which happened as he ploughed the road close to his family property.

The Hawkeye actor was airlifted to hospital after suffering "blunt chest trauma and orthopaedic injuries", according to his publicist.

It's said he suffered the horrendous injuries after a Snow Cat ploughing machine reportedly failed and sent it rolling over one of his legs.

He required surgery following the incident and remained in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

Almost two weeks after the incident, his family admitted they were "thrilled" with how his recovery was progressing.
