Jeremy Pruitt remembers first encounter with Deandre Baker

Current Tennessee head coach and former UGA defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt recently recalled his first time seeing Deandre Baker at a football camp.

At the time, Baker was a three-star recruit from Miami while Pruitt was busy coordinating the UGA defense.

“I had never even watched tape on the guy, I didn’t know who he was,” Pruitt recently said on a Knoxville radio show. “But I knew right then that he had a skill set…I asked him how many offers you got. He said, ‘Zero.’ I said, ‘Well, you got an offer from Georgia.’ He said, ‘Well, I commit.”

It’s a fascinating story about how Georgia came to acquire one of its best defensive backs in program history, and is a testament both to Pruitt’s eye for talent and Baker’s dedication to turn himself from a three-star recruit into a first-round NFL draft pick.
