Jeremy Maclin leaves Ravens' facility without signing a deal with team

If the Ravens sign free-agent wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, it won't happen Thursday.

The veteran left the team facility early Thursday afternoon without agreeing to a deal with the Ravens, coach John Harbaugh confirmed after Thursday's organized team activity practice.

Maclin, who had previously visited the Buffalo Bills before arriving in Baltimore Wednesday night, told Ravens officials that he wanted more time before making a decision.

"He was in here all morning into early afternoon, getting to know us, us getting to know him. He's going to go back," Harbaugh said. "We didn't press him to stay. Talking to his wife is really important. He's got a wedding this weekend, so he wants a little more time to make up his decision."

Maclin, a surprising release by the Kansas City Chiefs last week, had dinner with Ravens wide receivers coach Bobby Engram on Wednesday night and then joined several Ravens players at safety Tony Jefferson's house to watch Game 3 of the NBA Finals, won by the Golden State Warriors.

He met with Harbaugh, general manager Ozzie Newsome and other team officials Thursday, also speaking with former Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr., before leaving the facility while the Ravens were on the field practicing.

"We had a great visit with him. Jeremy got in last night and had dinner with Bobby Engram, and got with the guys, I think, and watched the Finals," Harbaugh said. "It was just great the way it worked out, so we had a chance to get to know the player, which was one of the big factors certainly."

The Ravens have a history of being able to close free-agent deals once players they covet are at their team facility. However, they'll now have to wait on Maclin, and Harbaugh said the Ravens were fine with that.

"The main thing is you want guys to be happy," Harbaugh said. "If they come here or wherever they go, you want them to look back and say, 'Hey, I made the best decision of my life to do that.' Well, he just got married, second-best decision. That's what we're hoping for if he decides to come here."
