Jeremy Kyle: Steve Dymond's death 'tip of iceberg' as aftercare is slammed

A Twitter user who says he worked on The Jeremy Kyle show claims guest Steve Dymond's death is just the 'tip of the iceberg'.

Going by the handle @tvtenterhooks, his bio says, "I find people for TV shows," and his latest post claims he worked on the ITV programme for a period of six months.

"Can assure you, story is the tip of the iceberg. Exploiting people with serious mental health/addiction problems," he wrote.

"Promise ‘aftercare’ after f***ing people’s lives up. Can’t tell you how long I’ve waited for this s**t to be investigated."

Steve's landlady found him dead in his room last Thursday, and said he was left suicidal after filming the show.

According to Shelly, 55, the 62-year-old was 'sobbing and distraught' when he returned from the set on May 2 after failing a lie-detector test about whether he had cheated on his on-off girlfriend, Jane Callaghan.

"He told me he had wanted to kill himself when he was being driven back to Portsmouth by a taxi that the show had booked," she told the Daily Mail.

She said Steven 'naively' thought the show would offer him counselling and therapy, but claims it was only after his death that reps from the show arrived.

"They didn't come down when he needed them, the show tipped him over the edge. They humiliated him," she added.

Last year, Mark Sinclair, 46 – who had post-traumatic stress disorder – died of a drug overdose three months after appearing on the show to be reunited with his daughter, who he had not seen for eight years.

In, 2007 a Manchester judge described the daytime show as “a human form of bear-baiting” after a husband butted his wife on stage.

However, Steve's ex-fiancée Jane Callaghan - who is believed to have appeared on the show with him - insisted the show's aftercare team had made numerous attempts to get in touch with him.

"They were brillliant. They were there when he needed help. They were really persistent in offering him help," she told The Sun.

Guest White Dee appeared in the show in February, and also had nothing but praise for the aftercare offered.

"I went onto the show earlier this year and I can’t criticise producers in any way," she told Birmingham Live.

"They talked me through absolutely everything before the show, asked me what I wanted to talk about and asked me what I didn’t want to talk about.

"Afterwards the Jeremy Kyle team asked me if i wanted any additional support. They were all very professional. I would like to think everyone who appears on the show is given the same level of aftercare that we experienced and I have no reason to doubt they wouldn’t."

Why was Jeremy Kyle cancelled? Here's everything to know

ITV pulled the scheduled broadcast of the episode on Monday, suspended filming of the show and removed all past episodes from the ITV Hub.

The episode will now be submitted for review, an ITV spokesperson confirmed.

In respect of aftercare, the rep said: "The Jeremy Kyle Show has significant and detailed duty of care processes in place for contributors pre, during and post show which have been built up over 14 years."
