Jeremy Kyle star Kristie Bishop died of drug overdose after being found with syringe

A Jeremy Kyle Show show star died of a drug overdose, an inquest has heard.

Kristie Bishop, 35, was found collapsed with a syringe nearby at her home in Luton back in March and died in hospital the next day.

She had been lying alone for up to 12 hours with a syringe nearby before she was discovered, according to Luton Today.

Kristie was rushed to Luton and Dunstable University Hospital where she suffered multiple organ failure and sadly died.

Samples taken from Kristie at the hospital tested positive for opiates and cocaine.

She had first appeared on the show in 2018 and appeared again in February last year after completing a 12-week rehab stint.

On the show Kristie had admitted that she had tricked her own grandparents out of money and begged for cash in the street to fund her addiction.

Her family confronted her on the programme to beg her to get help and she went to rehab.

She shocked viewers with her transformation as she vowed she had turned her life around.

An inquest into Kristie's death was held at Ampthill Coroner's Court on October 6.

Coroner Dr Sean Cummings, said: "Kristie was found collapsed and had been in that position for a prolonged period.

"As a result of that, the doctor told me she had a condition called rhabdomyolysis – where the muscles die and break down.

"It floods the body with toxins... the collapse was started with drug use.

"The muscle breakdown put a great deal of strain on her other organs, her heart and particularly her kidneys."

Kristie went into cardiac arrest soon after she arrived at the hospital and doctors worked for 45 minutes to resuscitate.

Her heart started pumping again but her blood pressure fell very low and she was put on both a breathing machine and kidney dialysis.

The inquest heard that Kristie was in a severe state of multi-organ failure, with "numerous blood clots" in her body.

Kristie, who was originally from Melton Mowbray but lived in Luton, was last seen coming home from a party at around 3am on March 24.

12 hours later she was found unconscious by her housemate.

Summing up at the coroner's court on October 6, Dr Cummings said: "My conclusion is that Kristie died of a drug-related death.

"That concludes the inquest and I'm very sorry."

During her first appearance on the show, Kristie's mother Dominique spoke of the effect her addiction had on the family.

"She could die unless we get her some help," Dominique said.

"She was such a lovely, lovely girl up until her teenage years when she started taking drugs.

"I'm disgusted and ashamed of the way she has been behaving."
