Jeremy Kyle 'ripped into' Steve Dymond and humiliated him on show, claims his son

Steve Dymond told relatives that Jeremy Kyle 'really laid into him' after appearing on the show.

The 62-year-old digger driver was found to have died by apparent overdose just days after appearing on the ITV talk show, where he failed a lie detector test.

Now, his son Carl Woolley has revealed that they had an emotional phone call straight after filming, in which Steve claimed that Kyle had "ripped into him" as it was alleged he cheated on his fiancee.

Speaking to the Daily Mail , he said: "Steve told me 'Kyle really laid into me'. Presumably that was at the point when they announced the lie detector result.

The "distraught" phone call was Steve's first communication with his son in seven years, with a relative putting them in touch after growing increasingly concerned for his emotional state.

"He had gone on the show solely to clear his name but he said it had gone wrong because of the lie detector test.

"He was adamant that he did not lie. He was so upset that he wasn't making much sense, but he just kept repeating: 'I haven't cheated, Carl, I swear I haven't cheated," his son said.

It wasn't just after the programme that Steve was allegedly upset, with Manchester student Babette Lucas-Marriott claiming that he was also alarmingly "crying throughout the show".

She recalled him "collapsing to the ground" following the results of the lie detector and said that he "couldn't believe what he had heard".

Speaking  on BBC News at Ten , she said: "He was crying from the very beginning. He was so convinced he would pass this test and everything would be fine.

"You just saw him collapse to the ground, he couldn't believe what he'd heard."

While the Jeremy Kyle lie detectors are described to be highly accurate , some critics have dismissed them as nothing more than pseudo-science.

Jeremy Kyle 'fears bosses have been looking for excuse to axe his show'

Steve's tragic death has prompted an active discussion about the welfare of guests on the show, and caused ITV to pull the programme and all future filming while they conduct a probe into the episode.

However, several members of the public have taken to social media and even signed a petition suggesting that the "cruel" programme should be taken off air for good following Dymond's passing.

MP Charles Walker, a vice-chairman of the all-party parliamentary group on suicide and self-harm prevention, told the Daily Mail: "On reflection, ITV would be best advised just to stop it. It's a very, very unattractive TV show and I'm surprised it's gone on so long."

While MP Simon Hart, who also sits on the committee, described the Jeremy Kyle Show as "car-crash TV which revels in people's terrible misfortune and sometimes their vulnerabilities".

Jeremy Kyle is yet to speak out on his show's suspension.
