Jeremy Kyle, the man who made a career out of encouraging members of the public to share their domestic problems on television, reportedly asked for his privacy to be respected after announcing his separation from his wife.
The Jeremy Kyle Show host became a household name for his confrontational style of mediating family disputes. Guests on the programme would sometimes undergo lie detector or paternity tests, often after being accused of cheating on a partner, with the results read out in front of a studio audience.
Memorable episode titles include: ‘I'm a binge drinker and a drug dealer, but I'll be a great dad,’ ‘prove I'm a dad and I'll prove I haven't slept with my mum’ and ‘why deny paternity just because the baby is ginger?’
Guests on the controversial programme were often ridiculed by Kyle and members of the audience.
The Times reports that Kyle "made a plea for privacy over his own private life" after his recent separation from his wife Carla Germaine.
Kyle confirmed his separation in a statement to The Sun on Thursday.
"After 13 years of a generally happy marriage my wife and I, Carla, have separated amicably. We have sadly grown apart over recent years and been living apart since earlier this summer.”
Kyle and Ms Germaine met in 2002 when she entered a competition to marry a stranger on the radio station he worked at.
The Independent has contacted Kyle for comment.
