Jeremy Kyle latest: Son of guest Steve Dymond claims presenter 'ripped into' his dad a week before he was found dead

The man found dead days after appearing on the Jeremy Kyle Show had told relatives the presenter “really laid into” him, his son has said.

Steve Dymond, 63, said Mr Kyle “ripped into him” on stage in front of the audience in an emotional phone call after the episode was filmed, his son Carl Woolley told The Mail.

The show was today permanently cancelled by ITV bosses following Mr Dymond's death.

Mr Dymond reportedly took a lie detector in an attempt to convince his fiancée Jane Callaghan he had not cheated on her but they split after he failed the test.

Days later he was found dead and the show was pulled off air by ITV, with bosses saying they would not screen the episode which featured Mr Dymond.

Mr Woolley, 39, said his father had been left distraught after failing a lie detector test during a recording of the daytime show earlier this month.

He said he and his father had not spoken for seven years but they got in touch after a relative alerted him to Mr Dymond’s emotional state following the show.

Mr Woolley, a father of three from Telford in Shropshire, said his father had told him Mr Kyle had “really ripped in to him”, The Mail reported.

In an interview with the newspaper, Mr Woolley added: “Steve told me 'Kyle really laid into me'. Presumably that was at the point when they announced the lie detector result.”

The Standard has approached ITV and representatives of Mr Kyle for comment on Mr Woolley’s claims.

ITV earlier said staff at the broadcaster and the show's production team were "shocked and saddened" at Mr Dymond's death.

An ITV spokeswoman said: "Everyone at ITV and The Jeremy Kyle Show is shocked and saddened at the news of the death of a participant in the show a week after the recording of the episode they featured in and our thoughts are with their family and friends.

"ITV will not screen the episode in which they featured."

The tabloid talk show sees host Kyle and psychotherapist Graham Stanier help the guests talk through their personal issues in front of a studio audience.

The programme has had its regular daytime morning slot on ITV since 2005.
