Jeremy Corbyn will have the Labour whip suspended for at least three months, it has been reported.

Chief whip Nick Brown is said to have written to Mr Corbyn telling him the whip had been suspended pending an investigation into whether he had broken party code of conduct.

Mr Corbyn was told the suspension will be kept under review and his conduct during the suspension will be taken into account, according to a report in the Guardian.

He was suspended from the party in late October over comments he made in the wake of a report by the equalities watchdog about anti-Semitism within the Labour Party.

Mr Corybn, the party’s former leader, said the scale of the problem had been “dramatically overstated for political reasons” by opponents and the media.

It comes amid calls from allies of Mr Corbyn for to the whip to be restored.

Sir Keir Starmer sparked a backlash from Corbyn supporters after blocking him from sitting as a Labour MP despite his readmission as a party member following his suspension.

Labour leader Sir Keir said his predecessor had “undermined” work to restore trust and confidence in the party’s ability to tackle anti-Semitism as he declined to restore the whip.

Corbyn supporters including former shadow chancellor John McDonnell, former shadow home secretary Diane Abbott and Rebecca Long-Bailey said the decision was “damaging”.

“[The] decision to reinstate Jeremy Corbyn to the Labour Party was the correct one and should be implemented across all levels of the party,” the group said.

“In light of this, the decision to not restore the whip to Jeremy Corbyn is wrong and damaging to the Labour Party.”

They called for the move to be “swiftly reversed.”
