Jeremy Corbyn to visit Glasgow during COP26 to demand environmental justice

Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn will be in Glasgow during the COP26 climate crisis conference.

A spokesman for the MP, who is currently suspended from the parliamentary Labour party, said he will be “making the case” for urgent action to deal with the global emergency.

World leaders including President Biden are expected to visit Scotland's biggest city later this year for what has been described as a last chance to reach an international deal on climate change.

Glasgow faces a mass street protest during COP26 with thousands expected to demand leaders take firm action on the climate crisis.

The Global Day of Action will see marches take place simultaneously across London, Manchester and several other cities - but the biggest gathering is expected in Scotland.

Corbyn, who led Labour to two general election defeats, will be among those demanding far reaching change.

His spokesman said he will be in Glasgow stressing the importance of developing a Green New Deal for workers, as well as promoting social and environmental justice.

He will also be supporting musicians and artists who have been unemployed.

Corbyn was suspended over his response to a watchdog’s report on anti-semitism in the Labour party.
