Jeremy Corbyn will use a formal state banquet at Buckingham Palace to raise human rights concerns with the Chinese President, it has emerged.
The Labour leader spokesman has confirmed that Mr Corbyn has accepted an invitation to attend the state banquet on 20 October.
Human rights and Free Tibet campaigners have been critical of China’s jailing of political activists, as well as the arrest of more than 200 lawyers in recent weeks.
Mr Corbyn’s spokesman said that the Labour leader will use the state visit to raise his concerns with the Chinese delegation.
He said: “He will be using the opportunity next week to raise the issue of human rights.
”There are meetings being discussed, and if he gets private meetings he will be raising it at those meetings. That is the right thing to do.“
Amnesty International is hopeful that Mr Corbyn, who has been a critic of working conditions in China, will use next week’s Prime Minister’s Questions to raise the issue.
