Jeremy Corbyn was mocked for “having a Theresa moment” after he coughed and struggled to find his water during a speech.

The Labour leader was addressing the MAKE UK manufacturing conference on Tuesday when he was struck by a tickly cough.

Mr Corbyn was about to announce a new education policy during the speech when he struggled to find his glass under the lectern.

Laura McInerney said: “Sitting in a train station, and Corbyn has appeared on the screen to announce his new education policy and then HE CANNOT FIND HIS WATER... *facepalm*...

“On the upside, the rest of the speech has been quite good. A Lifelong Learning Commission is a good idea. This is more like it.”

It evoked memories of Theresa May’s difficulties at the 2017 Conservative Party Conference, when the Prime Minister’s big fightback speech was marred by a coughing fit.

She was interrupted by prankster Lee Nelson and struggled to continue afterwards, leading to a cringeworthy series of pauses, croaks and wheezes.

During the speech, he confirmed that he will meet Michel Barnier in Brussels later this week.

He also addressed the departure of seven of his party’s MPs yesterday, adding: “I’m disappointed that a small number of MPs decided to take a different path, but this is an agenda which unites half-a-million Labour Party members inside and outside Parliament, along with millions of people across this country.”
