JEREMY Corbyn has given an update on the Scottish branch of his new party.
The former Labour leader was speaking at In Conversation event at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe on Saturday, where he confirmed he had met with activists north of the Border to discuss plans for the temporarily-named Your Party.
He said: "This morning, I was meeting a whole lot of people that want to be active in yourparty.uk.
Jeremy Corbyn (Image: PA) "We had a chat about how we're going to organise it, what we're going to do, what events we're going to have in Scotland."
He went on to say that the Your Party branch in Scotland would be "a Scottish operation".
"We already have yourparty.uk developing the organisation in England over the last couple of weeks, same in Wales and now in Scotland, so I'm very happy about that," he added.
The National previously reported how the first Scottish branch of the new forthcoming left-wing party will be launched in Glasgow next month.
The party – which has temporarily been named Your Party until an official name is decided on at a conference later this year – is being set up by Corbyn and former Labour MP Zarah Sultana.
During the Fringe event on Saturday, which was hosted by musician Calum Baird, Corbyn said Your Party would not be "a top-down party".
"I don't see it as a conventional political party, I see it much more as a community base of political activities," he added.
The former Labour leader went on to suggest a number of policies Your Party would adopt, namely that it would be a party for "environmental sustainability".
He also hinted at converting jobs in the arms industry towards the sustainability industry, as he said: "We've got lots and lots of skills in this country. We don't have to be polluting the environment or threatening to kill people. We can do things better and differently.
"Why don't we just be proud of the example we could set by doing that rather than catering to others in destroying the planet and going to war all the time?"
It comes after Corbyn was quizzed about his stance on Scottish independence during a visit to Glasgow on Friday.
He told the media that "Scottish people have a right to decide their own future", and that he would back another referendum if it was requested.
Gaza tribunal taking place next month
The Independent MP also gave an update on the upcoming "Gaza tribunal" which is being held after the Labour Government blocked his bill to establish a public inquiry into the UK's role in Israel's brutal bombardment of Gaza.
The tribunal – which is set to take place on September 4 and 5 in Church House, in Westminster – is set to consider the scale of the UK's complicity in the genocide, particularly concerning the supply of weapons, surveillance aircraft and the use of RAF bases in the region.
It will also consider whether the UK has lived up to its legal obligations, as well as hearing first-hand accounts from survivors and witnesses.
Corbyn confirmed on Saturday that UN special rapporteur Francesca Albanese is set to join the proceedings, as he said she was "very keen to support it and be involved".
He added that the public will have access to all of the evidence that is put forward in the tribunal, as well as the conclusion when it is reached.
Corbyn went on to add: "Why are we continuing with normal relations with Israel? Normal supply of information, knowing full well they are committing, as we speak, acts of genocide against the Palestinian people."
He told the audience: "Please, all of you, do everything you can to support the people of Palestine in their hour of greatest need."
