Jeremy Corbyn and Joey Essex meet to discuss the EU referendum

Journalists and political experts will clamour to get interviews with Jeremy Corbyn, a politician with a famously reticent attitude towards the media, and often find their requests denied.

But reality TV stars who aren't quite sure where the Labour leader even stands on the EU referendum can blag some time with Mr Corbyn to sit down and have a chat, it would appear.

Joey Essex announced on Wednesday that he would be meeting Mr Corbyn for his show, Educating Joey Essex, despite Labour claiming no official meeting had been arranged.

Mr Corbyn was no doubt keen to utilise Essex’s 3.5 million strong following as they encouraged people to vote in the forthcoming referendum.

In posts about their exchange, Mr Corbyn said Essex appeared at the EU In Crowd rally in Bristol, where the pair discussed “everything from the EU referendum to tuition fees”.

He added that he declined Essex’s invitation to go clubbing, but might take him up on his sartorial advice.

According to the Bristol Post, their meeting included the following, incredible, exchange:

Essex: “I know politicians get quite a lot of abuse. Are you a politician?

Mr Corbyn: “I work in that field.”
