Jeremy Clarkson has criticised a Who Wants to be a Millionaire contestant for “wasting a lifeline”.
During Sunday (7 February) night’s episode of the ITV quiz show, medical student Mainga Bhima competed for the chance to win the £1m jackpot.
Having watched two contestants be eliminated with just £1,000 each, Bhima was a little apprehensive as she found herself stuck on a question asking which country the KGB state security police were from.
Narrowing it down to two answers, the contestant ended up using her “ask Jeremy” lifeline on a question, much to the presenter’s frustration.
“I believe the East German police around that time were the Stasi, so I think it’s the Soviet Union but I’m going to double check by asking you, Jeremy,” Bhima said.
“You’re asking me? Here’s what I think, I think you've wasted a lifeline… 100 per cent it’s the Soviet Union,” an exasperated Claskson replied.
Viewers at home were frustrated by the scene, with one tweeting: “A woman on Who Wants to be a Millionaire just wasted a lifeline asking Jeremy which country the KGB were the secret police of… [facepalm emoji].”
However, Bhima progressed in the competition and still managed to walk away with her £64,000 safety net.
Back in September, WWTBAM crowned its first full jackpot winner in 14 years, with history teacher Donald Fear taking home the £1m prize.
